2019 Wrap up!!

15 Boys finished Runners Up in the Grand Final.

A fantastic season by the Bellingen 15 Boys saw them finish runners up in the Grand Final at C.ex Coffs International Stadium going down to Boambee 3-0. It was a good effort by the boys all round but they were just unfortunately outplayed on the day. Spirits were high all season with some fantastic goals along the way.

16 Girls, 14 Boys, 13 Boys and 12 Girls all made the Preliminary Finals and were unlucky to be knocked out at that stage in some very close encounters.

The 12 Girls were faced with an immense challenge against second placed Urunga at Urunga, without 6 of their usual team mates due to a school camp and illness, the girls were brilliantly supported by three girls from the 10s teams. Despite being 1 goal down at half time, all the girls fought hard and equalised. In the dying seconds of the game when Urunga managed to sneak a goal past the Bello defence after which the whistle blew. The girls kept their heads high and we were extremely proud of their efforts in the face of adversity.

Thanks so much Zoom for guiding the 13 Boys (boys and girls) throughout the season and pulling them together as a team with so much finesse. After going down to Macksville 2-1, a few words from the young coach himself on their season: "There was a train force of force and friendliness that came chooching its way on to Connell Park in the 13s Division. Not only did they win most of their games but they played with honour, smiles and integrity. Every week, I was blown away with appreciation for what a fine bunch of gentleman and ladies I was given the honour to coach. The tenderness and care they showed for each other and their opponents was perfectly balanced with commitment and grit when needed. This team is a real tribute to the community of Bellingen and the type of people that this town fosters."

The 14 Boys were determined to redeem themselves after their loss in the semis, and their second chance to make the grand final. In a high scoring contest it could have gone either way and Saturday just was not their day. Going down 4-2 in the end to Coffs Coast Pumas in Bellingen. Next year boys!

In a much lower scoring game, the 16 Girls just weren’t able to find the back of the net. Their defensive work was commendable, yet the Northern Storm managed to get the only goal they needed at Korora to finish the season for the Bellingen Girls. The girls had a great season overall and showed much resilience and great team spirit to get to the preliminaries. Well done girls!

Of the competitive age group teams that did not make the finals, the 12 Boys and 14 Girls, both were very unlucky to miss out. They finished only one victory away from making the finals - and showed class right to the very end.

For the 14 Girls it was fabulous to see how much the girls developed their skills and understanding of the game, and with a squad of 17 to draw on, it looks like there will be no shortage of talent to draw on next year for the Bellingen girls teams.

The 12 Boys also had a very large squad and where other clubs fielded two teams in a split age group, Bellingen had all their players in a single first division team. With it being their first season on the big field, they were nevertheless very competitive with only 3 losses and a fantastic 64 goals scored in just 15 games. We look forward to seeing more great things from these boys next season!
